Alterman House completed in 2005
Located on a high wooded plateau, the angled wings of the main house and garage/workshop create a sheltered courtyard. The orientation of the courtyard is southeast toward an existing meadow. Native fieldstone piers, boulders, and path stones anchor the bluestone loggia, terrace and screened porch to the site. The 2-story main wing contains the living spaces and 2nd floor bedrooms. The master bedroom and guest suite are attached at the ends of the ground floor. A loggia connects the main entry to the garage/workshop, separating the parking area from the courtyard. Throughout the living spaces, large expanses of glass connect the interior to landscape. The laminated pine beams and spruce ceilings of the loggia & screened porch, are brought indoors in the living and dining areas. The flow of space throughout is channeled by the angled geometry of the rooms and built-in cabinets, creating informal, individual living spaces oriented to particular views of the landscape.
